Featured Business - RKG Innovative Care

I love featuring local and female owned businesses so we can all support one another on our entrepreneurial journeys! Kelly is such an incredible power house and I'm so happy to introduce you all to her business RKG Innovative Care! See our interview below!

My name is Kelly & I am originally from New York & moved here at the age of 10. Some call me a Charlottean but I still consider myself a New Yorker. I am a wife, mom, & bonus mom. I have been in the plastic surgery/dermatology arena for over 20 years. I have worked for some of the best physicians in the world while working here in Charlotte, NC.

I decided to branch out on my own & start the very first plastic surgery aftercare company during COVID in 2020. We officially launched in April 2021 & it has been such a fantastic experience to start something from an idea & to grow it into a successful business. And then this year, I added the consultant side to where I can utilize my talents by referring patients who don't know where to start or who to go to for certain dermatologic or plastic surgery procedures.

Did you always want to be in or see yourself as a business owner & being your own boss?

I have always wanted to have something that I could call my own & offer an opportunity to people who may have not had the chance to work for someone in plastic surgery or dermatology. These specialities are not easy to get into.

What is it about "RKG Innovative Care" that stands out in the pre/post plastic surgery care industry?

RKG Innovative Care stands out in the pre/post plastic surgery industry due to me being connected to many plastic surgeons across the United States. I have built strong relationships over the last 20 years & we have a credible business. Credibility, trust, compassion are the key to success in our industry!

How do you balance being an entrepreneur and having a personal/family/social life? What does that look like for you and any tips for our readers?

Welllll this is a loaded question! Being an entrepreneur is a full time 24/7 type of job. I was in the hospital getting ready to have my c-section in April & was working right before they rolled me back to the operating room. You really have to have hard cut off times in order to balance work & family. As far as my social life, it has to be planned around my family & business things. Having a supportive husband & an amazing staff, helps me be able to plan things accordingly. All I can say for those who want to be an entrepreneur & feel like the world is crashing.. DO NOT QUIT!!! You have to adapt & adjust!

What is the part about your business that lights you up the most?

There are 2 things that light me up the most:

1. Being able to care for patients & get them back to their normal daily activities, sooner rather than later.

2. Being able to hire the best of the best staff & recognize them for being so great!

Do you have any advice/tips for women wanting to start their own business & go after their dreams?

Put it on paper, launch it, & tweak it. Nothing is perfect. You will have competition but let YOU be your competition. Just know that it is a lot of hard work but once it takes off, you can sit back & say "Damn, I did that!"

What made you take the leap into entrepreneurship and start "RKG Innovative Care"?

COVID was a huge eye opener for me. I was a practice manager & having to furlough my entire team was the hardest thing I have done in my career. Seeing how a corporation that makes a LOT of $, treated some, not all of the staff, I knew it was time for a change. So I gave them a 60 day notice and then took 3 months off to work on myself & the business plan. It was scary but I knew I had the grit & the grind to make it successful.

How has your journey been so far with your business and what services/products do you offer?

Our business is very much like a private plastic surgery practice. We have peak season which is usually between October through April or May. Then we typically have a "slower season" which are the summer months. Since we work with patients & practices across both North & South Carolina, we stay pretty booked. We offer everything from IV hydration, transportation to your surgery & back home, transportation to your post operative appointments, post surgical aftercare for all plastic/cosmetic procedures, & we offer both patient or practice consulting. If you are a patient who needs to know who to go to or who to stay away from, I am your person- RKG Beauty Boss. If you are a practice that is looking for a practice manager or to boost morale or reduce overhead, we offer that as well. We offer many things under the RKG umbrella.

Do you have a favorite part about your business whether it be expanding, learning about clients, creating new offers, etc & why?

The favorite part of the business is that every single day is not the same & it brings a new challenge. We are constantly improving, expanding into new markets, offering new services, etc. You have to be able to adapt & adjust to what your customer may want.
