On October 23, 2024, Ladies Lifestyle Network, Hays County had their Official Launch event, which focused on "Women + Community" and was held at Creekhaven Inn & Spa in Wimberley, TX. The nonprofit featured was Schoolyard Dogs.
The mission of Schoolyard Dogs is to collaborate with members of the community to provide neurodivergent adults in the Wimberley Valley with the tools and opportunities to find meaningful employment and volunteer activities, earn competitive wages, and to participate in and contribute to the world around them.
Our first step towards fulfilling this mission was opening a food truck on July 4th, 2024. Currently we have seven neurodivergent employees that prepare, cook, and serve our delicious creations. We are now squarely focused on our next goal of purchasing or leasing a building to house a kitchen and community center. The community center would provide a place for our clientele to spend their day doing meaningful activities, interacting with their peers and the community, and learning life skills.
Schoolyard Dogs was Community Director Jessica Cherry's pick, after seeing the neurodivergent employees wearing hot dog costumes on her commute to pick up her son, who is also neurodivergent. Both sides were happy to make this connection and we wish the absolute best and many successes for this amazing organization in Hays County!
